What is medical weight loss?

Medical weight loss is a program designed to help you lose weight and keep it off. If you’ve ever tried to lose weight on your own, you probably realized how hard it was to set goals and stick to them.

Medical weight loss is different in that it holds you accountable. Over the course of treatment, you regularly visit Care Clinic Plus. At each checkup, your provider weighs you and monitors your progress. They regularly make adjustments to your diet, exercise routine, and medication, ensuring you achieve lasting results.

What does medical weight loss involve?

At Care Clinic Plus, the providers offer medical weight loss consultations daily from 9am-6pm by appointment only.

During your initial consultation, your provider conducts a physical exam and orders lab tests, including a complete blood count (CBC), a complete metabolic panel (CMP), and a thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test.

When your provider receives the results of your lab tests, they develop a custom medical weight loss plan. Usually, that includes:

Eating a balanced diet and keeping a food journal

If you eat a diet that’s mainly junk food, it’s much harder to maintain a healthy weight. Your provider at Care Clinic Plus can recommend meals and snacks that feature fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

Your provider might also ask you to keep a food journal. A food journal tracks everything you eat throughout the day. It can help you monitor your calories and stay on track.

Exercising regularly

The only way to prevent weight gain is through regular physical activity. Care Clinic Plus offers a group walk and Zumba class for patients every Saturday. If neither of these activities appeals to you, your provider can recommend other exercises that align with your lifestyle and current level of physical fitness.

Prescription medication

Diet and exercise don’t always result in weight loss. If you need additional assistance, your provider might recommend B12 injections. B12 is a vitamin that helps boost your metabolism. What’s more, it provides additional energy, making it easier to exercise.

When will I experience results from medical weight loss?

The length of time it takes to experience results from medical weight loss depends on various factors, including your original weight and how closely you follow your provider’s treatment plan. Most people lose at least a few pounds within the first month, but it may take longer.

Make sure to attend each checkup, stick to your diet, and commit to exercise. If you follow these guidelines, you’re bound to make progress over time.
